1945 Founded in Hampton, Virginia
McDonald Garden Center began as a small, family-run business founded by two brothers in Hampton, Virginia. Their goal was simple: to provide local residents with high-quality plants and gardening products to enhance their homes and outdoor spaces.

1950sExpanding into a Full-Line Garden Center
During the 1950s, the business evolved from a modest nursery into a full-line garden center. New product lines, expanded plant selections, and the addition of display areas allowed McDonald Garden Center to meet the growing demand of Peninsula gardeners.

1973A New Chapter with the Anderson Family
In 1973, Eddie and Sara Anderson purchased McDonald Garden Center, bringing a renewed vision to the business. Their dedication to enhancing quality of life through gardening led to rapid growth, expanding both the size and the impact of the company within the community.

2009Launch of the First Garden Market
McDonald Garden Center introduced a new concept in 2009 with the opening of its first seasonal Garden Market in Poquoson, Virginia. These pop-up markets offered a fresh, convenient way for customers to access high-quality plants and garden accessories, eventually growing to as many as 15 locations across the region.

A Multifaceted Garden Destination

Today, McDonald Garden Center continues to thrive with two year-round Garden Centers, multiple seasonal Garden Markets, and a Landscape Design & Installation division. The business remains committed to providing expert advice, top-quality plants, and a personalized shopping experience to gardeners of all levels.
