In 2004, Christopher Newport University opened the Ferguson Center for the Arts. This university-based community performing arts center offers an eclectic mix of both popular and traditional entertainment. It includes an acoustically engineered, 1700-seat concert hall, the 450-seat Music & Theatre Hall, and a 200-seat black-box theatre. It also houses two art galleries, a dance studio, and several classrooms. Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts has established itself as one of the best performing arts centers in Southeastern Virginia, attracting nearly two million people since opening. The Ferguson Center continues to develop and promote strong partnerships between the arts, education and business communities throughout the region.
