Transforming an Old Backyard into a Modern Paradise
Hey there, landscape lovers! We’ve recently completed a fantastic hardscape project to share with you today. Our landscape designer, Luke Wheeler, worked his magic and gave these homeowners the backyard of their dreams. Let’s dive right in!
The owners of this home enjoy an amazing backyard that gracefully slopes down toward a man-made river. However, they felt that their current deck was blocking the full view. Their goal was to take away the original deck and open up the backyard with a much more modern design. The deck was also showing its age so the time was right to give us a call and start the design process.
Luke jumped right in with the homeowners. After showcasing a couple different designs, they finally settled on a complete hardscape makeover, specifically following the outline of the existing deck and having it naturally open up to the backyard. The process started with removing the old deck and making way for the new materials to be installed. This took about a month, in total, to complete.
Initially while designing the new hardscape patio, Luke did not intend for the stairs to have a slight curve. However, over the course of the project, he realized that the transition from the backdoors to the patio didn’t feel as natural as it should have been. After doing another pass on his design, Luke felt the curved stairs would make the patio feel more open and less angular in design. This was definitely the right choice!
